Guest Review of the Nita Lake Lodge Whistler
July 20, 2009
We stayed for five nights in June with two young children. The room was spacious
and the cupboard hiding the microwave and sink was a god-send with little ones.
The bathroom was lovely. The maid service was good & we were generally impressed
with the room for the money we paid (less than £100 per night). However, once
downstairs it felt like a ghost town most of the time and didnt have the feel
you would expect of a lodge in the summer - it was quite dark and uninviting we
felt. We ate in the bar one evening and there was only one lady serving drinks
and meals - so we had to wait quite a while for a drink, then the menu, then the
food.. The cafe was fairly popular but the staff never seemed to quite know what
was going on, what was on the menu, how to make the porridge or a cappuccino
etc.. It seemed very laborious for the server to have to write everything down
so she could present you with your bill afterwards. Parking was expensive but we
did it as we were told it was complimentary valet parking. It was, but the guy
was often no where to be seen so one of the girls off reception often did it
instead.
All in all, it was pleasant enough, and the setting by the lake was lovely (even
the train station at the front of the property is nice enough) but it just
seemed to be lacking things that could make it a really good hotel. It could
really do with a pool and gym. The complimentary bike hire was a bonus though -
and the lake trails round there are fabulous.

After reading the negative reviews we were slightly concerned about going to the
hotel. However as soon as we got there after a really long journey, the staff
couldn't have been more welcoming. We were taken to our room which was a one
bedroom suite with a lake view which had a lovely sitting area a tv and a coal
effect fire. This then led through to a bedroom area with patio doors leading
out to a balcony and seating area, the bedroom had a further tv and the most
comfortable bed that we've slept on away from home. The bathroom was huge and
spotlessly clean with a shower, bath a large sink area and separate toilet.
There was also a little kitchenette area where there was a fridge, microwave,
kettle and toaster and all cutlery and crockery that you'd need for four people.
This was a really valuable addition as we were able to make breakfasts, lunch
and some dinners. (we're not huge eating out people!)
The room was cleaned daily to a very high standard, all the staff were polite
and helpful. We disagree with the previous comments that the hotel did not have
enough staff, if the bell boy was unavailable someone from reception would park
your car for you. Parking was $15 a night but having been aware of this from
previous postings and appears commonplace for hotels in Canada we were aware and
budgeted for this.
We ate a couple of times in the restaurant for breakfast and once for bar food.
Breakfasts were well presented, and excellent quality and the high end of
reasonably priced. Service was also good.
Whistler was a lovely destination with lots to do, reasonably priced activities.
Overall a lovely stay.
Really nice to be slightly out of the hustle and bustle of town, if you like to
be in a scenic, quiet location this is the hotel for you.

Nita Lake Lodge is a great place to stay in the summer because it is right on a
lake. If you have a boat, there is a dock. The lake is small but pretty. Quiet
setting, good service. There is a trail that goes all the way to Whistler
Village - 4 mi. The issue is that it is not flat service. We were hoping to bike
in with our bike trailer but decided not to. Hotel has FREE bikes for guests and
a shuttle. There is a bus stop (bus comes every 20 min to Whistler Village) for
$2 near by. Driving is ok too- parking in Whistler Village does cost money
though.
I would recommend this to people who are looking for serenity. If you want a
party scene, I would probably pass.
Our room had 2 levels (we paid to upgrade). It had a great view of the lake. We
originally had a 1 bedroom suite with balcony - however it was on the lowest
floor (floor 2) and on the end - so the view wasn't good. For $60 Canadian
dollars we upgraded. Both rooms were really nice. Comfortable bed, nice shower/
tub/ nice kitchen nook which was set inside an armoire. |
