Hotel Review of the Fairmont Hotel Chateau Whistler

We went to Whistler Backcomb directly after the Olympic Games. It is a beautiful village and we could not have been more pleased with the quality of the hotel. The Club level has a wonderful breakfast and hors d' oeuvres bar with a very reasonable honor bar and free soft drinks. The hotel location is the best for skiing; literally steps from the chair lift. The ski rental s are excellent and the lobby has excellent shops.
The skiing in Whistler/Blackcomb is really great, even for a couple of experts from Colorado!

Carole and I stayed there on our 25th in 1995 ( the window above doesn't go back that far). Great room with high-end fixtures and furnishings, great restaurants, great views, fabulous surroundings. Great concierge services for visitors not familiar with the area. Best restaurant in town that we found (at that time) was the Val d'Isere. You could not find mediocre seafood anywhere in Whistler. It was off-season, but the cable lifts up into Blackcomb and other mountains are among the best in North America. Also the day drives we took on up the valley to various waterfalls and other villages were superb - glaciers and peaks down to the blue waters of the Pacific - not sure what it's called there, but it's the Puget Sound further South. There's just so much to see in a 60 mile area.

Stayed with a group of friends during a slow time before the Olympics and was very impressed. The room was nice, clean and in great shape. Quiet at night. Since we were a bit off-season, we got a good rate and I thought we had good value. We booked through Intrawest, the Whistler-Blackcomb travel booking service, and got a great rate on hotel, air, bus transport & ski, but it looks like the hotel has good packages, too.
Loved that the ski rentals are in the Fairmont hotel and Blackcomb mountain is right out the side door. I read some reviews that the hotel was outdated, but it's fairly consistent with the traditional style I've seen in the Fairmont's in Banff and S.F., with some nice local touches in the lobby, etc.

Its taken me a little time to write this review. Our family of 4 spent 4 nights in Vancouver and then drove up to Whistler to spend 3 nights at the Fairmont during half term in October 2009. We knew that Whistler was 'between seasons' and expected most of the shops/attractions and restaurants to be closed. Our three days were incredible and didn't disappoint. You just have to go zip lining. Our room at the Fairmont cost us $104 per night...just incredible, I told my wife that we would be able to sleep there but wouldn't be able to afford to eat there. How wrong I was...we were informed on checking in that each night between 5-7pm we could in the restaurant for $10 per adult and $5 per child. Our bill for the evening with tax was $34. We will be back.

We normally stay in condos when on ski trips so this was a big splurge. We've experienced high line ski resorts throughout the world from an après ski and dining perspective, this was the first time we stayed in one. WOW! At one point I thought a hand would suddenly appear to wipe my nose for me. No carrying skis and boots due to the strategically located ski concierge (steps from the lift and under the hotel) that stores them for you overnight. The location is so phenomenal that if you could invent a little jet thrust on your skis you would end your last run up on your room balcony. From absolute beginners to expert skiiers, children to adults, there was a friendly and patient instructor for you. Despite the similar price tag, this isn't a Vail or Aspen-like "snow bunny" resort. Guests were unpretentious, apre-ski was quiet and relaxing.

The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is one of those hotels/destinations that I almost wanted to cry leaving. The hotel staff are extremely friendly. They genuinely like their job and love their home. The hotel is in immaculate conditions gearing up for the Winter Olympics. The rooms were a nice size and the decor went perfect with the mountains. The hot tub and heated swimming pool were in great condition and were a great way to end the day. Followed by the steam room. The hotel is also conveniently located at the base of Blackcomb mountain with a great ski valet shop downstairs. I stopped in the bar ever evening for a warm drink while a talented musician played live music every evening. The waiters get to know you and tell you great mountain stories. The locals also prefer the summer months so I look forward to returning this summer to experience that side of Whistler. Stay at this hotel you will not be disappointed. Also if you are a sushi fan the sushi is a must. I am from the US East Coast and have never had salmon like that before. The salmon is so bright and clean it looks like Tuna. The Albacore tuna is so fresh and amazing. If you are a fan of Toro they have the best Toro I have ever eaten.
For a little extra adventure we booked the ziplinning tour. Great people and a lot of fun....I highly recommend it.

First of all the service at this hotel could not be faulted. Extremely efficient and friendly. It also had the best room service I have had. Room service that actually tastes good and arrives hot. I would definitely stay at this hotel again but the room we stayed in was looking very tired. Our view also was just of the trees outside so I think if you ask for a village view it would be much nicer. Our room seemed very dark. We did get the room at an extremely cheap price so I was not concerned. If I paid more I probably would be disappointed. All in all a great hotel just needs a freshen up to the rooms as they seem a bit dark and old. This was the lead in room type so I am not sure what the other rooms would be like!! For anyone there during the warm months a gondola ride up the mountain in the summer is just beautiful and the hotel can organise lift passes for you and just put them on your room bill!!

What a great experience! The location of the Fairmont Chateau Hotel Whistler and beautiful views of Whistler and the mountains were breathtaking. This is a luxurious hotel and the rooms were very nice. All the restaurants and amenities were excellent. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Whistler, be it for business, skiing, summer activities, romance, or family vacation.

Clearly the best hotel in Whistler Fairmont Chateau Hotel Whistler
and in the premier location in the Upper Village- venue for the slopes and first rated golf course. Château Whistler golf course is an absolute must to play for the avid golfer. Outstanding layout with views galore. Family friendly as well for those who want to take in the views only. Service and food were exceptional quality and were up to the Fairmont discriminating standards.

The Fairmont Chateau Hotel Whistler is right at the base of the mountain, the hotel is in a perfect location if you want to do mountain activities and be close to the action of the village, but far enough away so you don't have the loudness of party goers in the village. The rooms have real furniture, not generic hotel stuff and incredibly comfy beds and linens. The hotel staff were genuine and positive. When we thought we were out of luck due to time constraints and not able to do a ziptrek tour, the concierge found us a tour that wasn't available in the regular listings that we were able to make! Drinks at the Mallard Lounge were strong and well made, and room service dinner and breakfast were served exactly at the time they said it would be and delicious! (try the salmon for dinner!) Also had wonderful dinner in the Wine Room. Spent a long time in the hottest of the three outdoor hot tubs (the one closest to the fitness area) and being served soda and lunch by the pool is pretty great! They amazing have two pools, one set aside for laps only! Outside fire pits were great to sit around and have a drink. Beautiful hotel inside and out, can't wait to go back!
