Hotel Review of the
Glacier's Reach Whistler
Jun 9, 2009
Stayed at the Glacier Bear Suites at Glaciers Reach (#111/111A) for two weeks
over Easter. Booked through Allure hotels which was very efficient. The owner
was very helpful and accommodating as we made a couple of date changes. This
condo is very spacious and had absolutely everything we could have hoped for.
The beds were amazing with memory foam mattresses and the private hot tub was a
joy. The condo is very central and convenient but as it is at the rear of the
complex it is very peaceful. The courtesy bus runs about every 8 minutes from
the front of the complex just across the road. It takes you to the ski lifts or
into town in the evenings, though it is only a ten minute walk -this would be an
effort in ski gear.
Can recommend the whistler physio clinic on the Market place (just opposite the
condo) as my husband sprained his knee on the first day! They managed to get him
back on the mountain for the last couple of days.
The only downside to the trip was the lack of evening entertainment for
teenagers. The age restrictions ot enter the bars was 19. There didn't seem to
be anywhere else for them to go. However, it was a wonderful holiday, we hope to
come back
Hotel Review of the
Glacier's Reach Whistler
Mar 22, 2009
We booked for a 5 night anniversary trip. Although this could work well for you
depending on your personal preferences, based on ours, it wasn't what we had
hoped. Still, let me provide you with some details:
Overall Layout: When you enter the condo, there is a small entry way and a
closet. Then a flight of steep stairs leading up to the main living area. From
the landing by the main living area, there is another set of steep stairs going
up to another bedroom with two single beds, an ensuite washroom and the deck
housing the hot tub.
Main Living Area: there is a lovely fireplace , a dining room table (folds out
to seat maybe 6?), a coffee table/chest, leather couch (folds out to a double or
small queen sofa bed, can feel the springs but not too bad for a sofa bed),
plasma TV on the wall and a wooden chair.
Kitchen: beautifully updated with granite counter tops and all stainless steel
appliances that appear to be brand new. Dishes and cookware are provided, as
well as spices and some basic provisions such as coffee, flour, etc.
Main floor bedroom: queen size bed. No dresser, just a closet and a wardrobe The
window is next to a main street and if you are a light sleeper, you WILL find
yourself waking up quite often with ambulances and helicopters (across from
medical centre) and truck traffic being the chief disturbances.
Main floor bathroom: small but functional and quite nice, has similar if not the
same granite counter tops as the kitchen, a decent size bathtub , a shower and
the usual toilet/sink/cupboard.
Upstairs: we didn't use the upstairs area other than the hot tub, but there is a
tv in the upstairs bedroom and again a wardrobe rather than dresser. Otherwise
looks comfortable - the upstairs bathroom is an ensuite to the bedroom and
appears to be similar to the main floor bathroom.
Hot tub is on a balcony that is pretty much impossible to see into but has a
nice enough view of the tops of the mountains.
Location: now this is a really strong point. Heading out from the condo, you
face the medical centre and shopping complex right across the road. IGA grocery,
sushi, coffee shops, pharmacy, liquor store and a lot of other amenities are
right there, but if you are looking for something else or want to head into the
main village, there is a free shuttle that comes every 7 - 10 minutes (the 5 or
6 or 56, called Village shuttle and says Free service) that will drop you at the
base of the village gondolas (can also stop off at blackcomb gondola etc) and
it's really fast and handy. Stop is right across the street by the entrance to
the shopping complex.
Wireless internet is provided, but we had to search through all the available
wireless networks until we figured out which one worked with the password we
were given.
Overall we found this unit worked out okay, Hope this helps anyone else
considering this unit to have a better idea of what to expect. |
