Guest Review of the Westin Hotel Bear Mountain Victoria
20 August 2011
We stayed here for five nights in July/August this year as one of the key
moments in a nearly month-long visit to Canada and USA. For us, it's ideally
located on the edge of downtown Victoria (about 25 minutes) and also reaching
out to the surrounding communities and hinterland for visitors.
This hotel was one of two highlights in our whole summer trip this year. It is
magnificent and we will try to stay here again.
We had rooms with balconies overlooking the golf course, valley and countryside.
The food was good and bar service excellent. There is complimentary internet,
something we did not find in other Westin's we stayed in. The car parking valets
deserve special mention for their helpfulness and also the reception staff.
The bar allowed our older minors to stay with us until 10 p.m. which suited us.
Other facilities in the resort were readily available and much appreciated.
Only one small thing (not enough though to mark down this wonderful experience)
is that we find the table Service at breakfast extremely slow. There is no
breakfast buffet and some mornings we waited up to 30 minutes just to take
delivery of toast and cereal.

The service at this hotel and at their pool and gym facilities was extremely
friendly and accommodating. We were upgraded to a large one bedroom suite with a
huge deck overlooking the mountains and golf course. The pool area is terraced
and so gives groups a certain level of privacy but don't expect it to be quiet
on sunny summer days as they run day camps and the pool is used by both hotel
guests and members.
Room Tip: Although a little nosier the Clubhouse rooms have larger decks and
nicer views than the Fairways building.

Three 40-something males played both course in May on a fairly decent weekend.
The Mountain Course is tougher than the Valley, but both are decent tracks. We
ate at the local pub both nights and took in UFC on their big screen.
Considering the fact that it is a pub, the food is definitely above average and
they serve large portions too. Service at the hotel was hit and miss - golf shop
employees seemed to enjoy their jobs and people in general - the folks at the
front desk left a slightly less warm impression.
The overall experience is decent as well - but seeing the elements of the
unfinished project leaves you to wonder about the future viability of the
resort.

We went to Vancouver Island for a relaxing vacation - looking to play golf, take
in some local fun and simply relax. The Westin was a perfect spot for all three.
Both golf courses are fun, challenging and very scenic. The service was
outstanding, there were plenty of dining options and it was easy to relax and
enjoy the surroundings. We plan to visit again!
