Hotel review of the Chateau Victoria Hotel and Suites
July 2, 2011
We stayed 3 nights here in a one bedroom suite. Very spacious room, clean, and
nice kitchenette. Not much view, but you're away from the Harbour a bit, so
that's expected. Very close walking distance to everything Victoria has to
offer, and convenient downtown car rental if you want to venture out to Butchart
Gardens or Craigdarroch Castle.

The Chateau Victoria has many pleasant things about it, but it definitely isn't
the best place I've stayed at.
Pros:
1. Great location! Just a few blocks away from Parliament Buildings, the
Empress, and Government Street. You can easily walk to most of what you would
like to do in downtown Victoria.
2. Clean rooms. Our room was spacious and clean. We had nice view from our
balcony too.
3. Friendly service. Every interaction we had with the staff was pleasant and
friendly. When we asked to switch from a double queen room to a king room, they
were more than happy to comply. They even brought the keys to our new room
directly to us instead of making us haul everything back down to the lobby.
4. Free high speed internet, nice-sized TV.
Cons:
1. The bathroom left a little to be desired. The tub was shallow and shower head
was low. The water pressure was finicky, and so was the temperature. Also, if
you don't have the fan going, the bathroom becomes really foggy and the musty
feeling can linger long after the last shower. Overall, it was just an okay
bathroom.
2. The beds were comfortable, but the linens were rough and the pillows were not
up to par. They were lumpy and uncomfortable.
3. The noise level. In general, the hotel was very quiet, but we stayed during a
couple of warmer days, so we needed to have the windows open to feel
comfortable. We tried the air conditioner (which was not great--it was loud and
made the air incredibly dry), but to no avail. With the windows open. you could
definitely hear the nighttime noises of Victoria--especially the club music from
the local rooftop club about a block away.
Overall, we expected something historic and charming in the Chateau Victoria,
but things just felt dated. It certainly wasn't a bad hotel--it just wasn't
great either, and we definitely felt that we could have stayed somewhere better
for the money we paid. Hotel review of the Chateau Victoria Hotel and Suites

Upon arrival we were upgraded from a Double Queen Suite to a Penthouse Suite on
the top floor of the hotel. What a nice surprise! We had a wrap around balcony
where we enjoyed the view drinking wine. The front desk was excellent - they
provided us suggestions, mapped how to get various places using public
transportation, and allowed us to keep the car parked after we checked out.
The hotel room was huge, clean with a king sized bed with attached bathroom and
a queen bed in another bedroom with a second bathroom accessible via the hall.
It was a short walk to Inner Harbor and all the other Victoria sites. I would
highly recommend this hotel even without the upgrade.

Stayed at the Chateau Victoria for two nights while on a family vacation. The
spacious room had two queen beds, with one in a separate bedroom, a small
kitchen area with refrigerator, microwave and sink, and a couch, chair, and desk
in a living room area. I believe the hotel is a converted apartment building
which makes the rooms larger than a normal hotel room. The hotel location was
great with access to the inner harbor less than a 10 minute walk away. Free
parking in the hotel garage was greatly appreciated. The room and hotel were
clean and the front desk was efficient and professional. I recommend this hotel
based on both the value and the location.

Very pleasant hotel with generous sized rooms. Very comfortable separate
bedroom. Only problem Hotel was way too hot, we turned off heating and opened
balcony door which made our room more pleasant but the heat in the corridor was
amazing. Definitely think you could do better than eat in the restaurant
although it did have great views.

This was our 2nd stay at this hotel. It's really a nice hotel and while its not
on the water its very centrally located. The service was pretty good and the
staff were really nice. The room we had on our first visit was much better, I
think it was on the 3rd floor. This time we were in rm 217 which was next to the
pool, housekeeping, and appeared to be over the bar. It was pretty loud. I would
definitely still come back here again.
