We just celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary and planned this very special
event by staying at the Empress. We lived in the great Northwest for a few years
and fell in love with British Columbia as well. We now live in the Deep South in
the USA and perceive the luxury that is available at the Empress was equal to
this significant occasion in our lives. This was the 4th time we have stayed at
the Empress and the experience again was most memorable. Thank you

I took my girlfriend for a romantic night at the Empress for her birthday. Wow!
Did I get major brownie points!! We got a room with Fairmount gold service, and
what a treat that was. We totally felt like famous people and the attention to
detail was phenomenal! We dropped our bags in the room and went for a hotel tour
and then some shopping nearby. When we got back, there were little chocolate
treats, a nice note, the curtains were drawn and some cool lounge music was
playing on the Bose CD player. Great ambiance!
We went to the famous Empress dining room for a fancy dinner. Our waiter Earle
was just fantastic! He made our dinner a special experience and the food, the BC
wine and the ambiance was just outstanding!
We then went for drinks at the Bengal Lounge for drinks and once again, Lorne
our waiter was top notch! He would not let us leave without us having some cake
and he actually went out of his way to bring cake to our room!
This is a treat you must experience once in a while! It's really a must do in
Victoria. Definitely 5 stars all the way!

This was our third stay at the Empress and it’s a grand old hotel with charming
public areas, but the guest rooms need updating. The cost of the hotel is 5 star
but the rooms are 3 star.
As President’s Club members we were very disappointed in the Jr. Suite we had
for 3 nights. The bathroom was the size of a closet, the room lighting was very
poor and the furniture looked old, beaten and worn out. The sofa and chair in
the sitting area had material coming off them exposing tacks/nails. The
refrigerator did not work and when I called to get it fixed the service man came
up and told me that it was working fine, but did not get cold our entire stay.
This room was very small and cramp for 3 adults. No AC is a negative when it is
warm outside and need screens on the windows.
Our room was located right next to the service elevators and staff area for
housekeeping. It was noisy and a huge disappointment for the price of what
should have been a higher end room. The room carpet and hall way carpets need to
be cleaned or replaced due to showing wear.
We had friends in a standard room located next door with two queens and paid 1/4
of what we paid with a much bigger bathroom, bigger room than our Jr. Suite with
pleasant colored walls and a refrigerator that would not get cold.
If you wanted turndown service you had to call and request it and there were not
enough towels in the rooms.
The public areas of the hotel are nice and the President's Club staff was very
nice. When we arrive the valets did not welcome us to the hotel and ask if they
could assist us with any of our luggage as they have done in the past. My
husband had to get them from their desk and let them know we needed help with
unloading our luggage and parking our car.
We went down to the bar one night when we got in and found that after we ordered
our first drink they were closing at midnight and we could not get any more
drinks. What a disappointment.
This is a lovely hotel with a great history, but it is very over priced for what
you get when it is compared to other hotels of it’s star rating. |
