Review of the Red Lion Inn Victoria

Stayed at the Red Lion for family event, 5 nights. Overall a very nice Inn
although my local family had told me some stories about the V Lounge and other
rumors about it's reputation. Based on reviews recommendations I went ahead.
Front desk staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, the lobby
was clean and modern as in the picture. My room, which was situated facing the
back parking lot on the 2nd of 3 floors, was mostly quiet although Fri & Sat
nights I did hear occasional shouting but I used the fan on the A/C for white
noise and that helped me get good nights sleeps. The room itself was a little
worn but had everything a solo female traveler needed: microwave; sink,
cook-top, fridge unit; nice LCD TV; hairdryer; travel size shampoo, etc. and
best of all a nice magnifying mirror in the bathroom for makeup application. The
Inn is perfectly located near Uptown and Mayfair malls and being right on
Douglas there is easy bus service downtown and waterfront, where you don't want
to drive if you can help it, so busy esp. in summertime. The Inn is right on the
Galloping Goose trail so biking and walking are other options to get around. The
price of the Inn was very reasonable for where you are and the time of year.
On the downside the parking wasn't the best; twice I had to use the back parking
lot as the spots near the front entrance were filled up, I did get in later in
the evening while I was there so I'm not sure if that was a deterrent but there
were always people around. The first night I checked in I was told to just use
one of the 5 min max check-in spots, which were available sometimes. I do not
recommend parking on the south side as that is the V Lounge lot.
Overall I was very pleased with my stay and will stay again the next time the
family's house is full.Review of the Red Lion Inn Victoria

My wife and I went to Victoria to meet up with a friend that was staying at the
Red Lion. Fortunately we only stayed one night! It was tricky finding it but I
had Google directions printed out so it wasn't too bad, but don't blink because
you'll miss the main entrance and end up in the parking lot for the strip club.
The staff were all very polite and even though we were way before the 3 pm
check-in the clerk radioed a cleaner and said to clean our room right away. It
was only about a 15-20 minute wait so we visited our friend down the hall. For
the price the room was OK. The bed was firm-ish and the small sofa was too saggy
to sit on comfortably. Our room faced west, overlooking the bike/walking trail
and rear parking lot and was at the end of the hall, so there wasn't any guests
walking past our door, however, the window had to be kept open in the hallway
because it was so hot and stuffy. Every time we opened our door we were greeted
with the smell of someone smoking pot, either in the hotel or standing down
below outside. One big complaint we had was about the carpet in the room. It
looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years! On top of the general dirtiness of
it there were stains and spots all over. Overall, it wasn't too bad for a
last-minute decision, but we probably won't stay there again. Oh, and parking is
difficult because the lot is shared with the restaurant, liquor store, lounge,
and whoever else. You might end up parking in the back lot and having to put up
with people asking you for money, etc. at night.

This hotel was a good spot to stay when traveling to Victoria, right on the main
road of Victoria and at the edge of the city. Even though some reviewers
mentioned noise, we did not notice any during our entire one week stay. The lady
at the front desk was extremely helpful. The laundry facilities were quite nice.
Our room was larger than usual with a kitchenette and the bathroom walls were
with granite detail and it seemed to be very clean. We would recommend this
hotel to anyone, and look forward to returning there on future trips.

The hotel is a very short walk to the ferry stop and the inner harbour
attractions, particularly Parliament and the Natural History Museum. The flat
screen tv was really nice, the wifi worked well, and I have no complaints

The hotel had no personality. There is an attached Chinese restaurant which we
did not try. The building was relatively clean, but when we entered our room
there was a very unpleasant odor of natural gas and of cooking that had been
done in the room before we arrived. The hotel is located several kilometers
outside of downtown Victoria near a new shopping center with a Walmart with a
supermarket and a few fast food restaurants nearby. It is nothing like downtown
Victoria. You cold be anywhere in North America. I did not like that for the
price there was no breakfast included.

We had a great time - the room was clean and comfortable and the staff were
excellent. We liked it so much we booked another night on our way home, and
asked a staff member (Chris) to also arrange whale watching tours for us - he
were so helpful and accommodating - we would definitely stay there again! |
