Reviews of the Hotel Grand Pacific Victoria

We spent a couple of nights at the Hotel Grand Pacific during the US
Thanksgiving Holiday. We picked this hotel because of the indoor pool which is
very important to keeping our 12 and 9 year old occupied. The location of the
hotel couldn't be better - just across the street from the ferry, one block from
the Royal BC Museum, and a few minutes walk to downtown Victoria.
The indoor pool facility is great. They have a nice warm Olympic size swimming
pool, a kiddie pool for the toddlers, a hot tub, sauna, and a steam room and a
fully equipped gym right next to it.
The room was nice but nothing special. My experience in general is that Canadian
hotels seem to be a bit behind US hotels when it comes to decoration &
amenities. While most US hotels now offer a flat screen TV, this one does not.
No biggie but a bigger TV and a DVD player would be nice to have when traveling
with kids.
We had Thanksgiving dinner at the restaurant and the food was very good. The
services was super friendly (as was anyone we interacted with a the hotel).
In summary, great location, good price, clean, and kid friendly. Highly
recommended.

The location is perfect for a stay in downtown Victoria but the staff really
sets this property apart. We booked a room with a very inexpensive rate and when
we were taken to it we found it was right next to the elevator. We asked if they
had a room that was not right next to the elevator shaft and were immediately
moved to a nicer room. Thirty minutes later there was a knock on the door, the
feather pillows that we had asked for (and were in the first room) were being
delivered to our new place. Talk about service, who would have remembered that
until it was bedtime?
This location is also dog friendly which made our daughter and her husband quite
happy. The property does set limits though: the dog was not allowed in the sauna
(this was a joke).
There is also a coffee shop in the "P1" level so you don't even have to go out
for that first cup in the morning.

Next door to the Parliament...Our king size bedroom was overlooking the harbour
and partial downtown. High quality bed linens and accommodations. Only problem
was due to the structure of the building ( an L shape) the rooms across can look
right into your room, on your bed, in many cases. We were all the way up on
7th...can't imagine being any lower. You also have no privacy on the
balcony......but it's still nice to have one! Staff is a little snooty.

We stayed 2 nights at the hotel. It is outstanding in so many ways which
includes: superb rooms, excellent restaurant, customer service was outstanding,
gym is the very best including a phenomenal pool. It is centrally located for
easy access to the downtown area, British Museum and IMAX, etc.

We stayed 2 nights at the Grand Pacific. The hotel is next to the Parliament
building and the Best Western.
I was expecting an older hotel, but it seems fairly new. I don't know how old it
is. The lobby is nice and the hotel staff were polite, but not as friendly as
some other Canadian hotels.
Our room was on the third floor looking back, and we found out that the big tour
buses park there. Constant noise and the smell of diesel fume prevented us from
opening the balcony sliding door and enjoying the fresh air. The king bed was
comfortable and the room size was decent. Not sure if our room was recently
renovated. You may want to avoid lower floor rooms facing back. The parking
isn't too bad, and is located under the hotel. Easy to get in and out of.
Victoria is fairly compact so it is easy to walk around. I saw numerous other
hotels, all pretty close to each other. I don't think you have to worry about
any hotel in Victoria being too far away from the harbor.
Overall, a very good stay, perhaps not exceptional.
