Hotel review of the Chateau Victoria Hotel and Suites

A friend and I recently did an overnight trip to Victoria and chose this hotel
from the Victoria Clipper specials list - not really knowing much about it. The
location was central to so many things - downtown area so walking was easy. The
beds and bedding were so comfortable - not hard like I've experienced in other
hotels. Very plush feeling - and we had just the regular rooms - not a suite.
They were very friendly and very willing to keep our luggage until the clipper
left in the evening.

My girlfriends & I stayed here for a little 2 night vacation. We had a 1BR
suite. Plenty of room to move around & store our stuff. Hotel was in a great
location, central to all attractions and dining venues, and all within walking
distance. The hotel itself was what we expected for a 3-3.5 star rated hotel.
Our suite was very clean and comfortable. What really made our stay though was
the evening front desk & bell staff. They were very friendly, offered dining
venues to try (which we loved) and even gave us a complimentary shuttle ride to
and from restaurants. Nothing was too much to ask of these people. We also
requested a DVD player for our room as my friend had brought a DVD she wanted us
to share, and they installed one right away (even though they have On Command
movies in the room already). Keep up the great work C.V.!
Room Tip: Not all suites have a kitchenette. Ask for one, (no extra charge), as
it was nice to have an extra sink & mirror when 3 women are all trying to get
ready in the morning.

I stayed here for two nights in mid-August, and, as many reviews here have
noted, I thought the location was excellent. The staff was also very friendly.
Yes, the air conditioner/hose contraption was a bit strange, but it really
wasn’t needed and it’s better than nothing! I didn’t eat in the hotel, however,
the rooftop bar/restaurant did look tempting. For a local treat, take a walk to
Willie’s (537 Johnson Street) for breakfast. I didn’t mind the furnishings at
all and liked the flat screen television. The bathroom floor looked like it
could have been a bit cleaner (was that dirt between the tiles or just age?).
I didn’t notice until I got home that they charged me CAD 20 more per night from
what was confirmed at the time I booked the room on their website. I emailed
them as soon as I noticed the discrepancy, and received a response within 10
minutes apologizing for the error and they issued a credit immediately.
I would stay here again.

The hotel is just around the corner from the Victoria Conference Centre and a
short walk to the Parliament Buildings. Everything is a short walk away. Great
location!
The room is comfortable and our room did not have the greatest view, but that
was ok as we did not spend a lot of time in our room anyway. If you want a
fantastic view, the Vista 18 has a fantastic view. I highly recommend making a
reservation... even for breakfast.... to have a better chance of getting a
window seat. Oh and not to mention how good the food is.... the pancakes are
fantastic as is the eggs benedict.
The front desk staff are very helpful and are quite ready to assist you with
giving directions and recommendations.
The beds in the room are very comfortable and as an added bonus, the room coffee
is excellent!

This place is really nice...the same league as any urban Sheraton or Hilton.
However our suite did not have full air conditioning. It did have one of those
portable AC units in the bedroom of the suite...the ones with the hoses that run
out the window. But it was a challenge to get the suite to a temperature that
was comfortable for us, and seemed rather "ghetto" for such a nice place.
So yes this place has AC....sort of. We were just rather surprised that such a
nice hotel suite had obviously inferior climate control. Other places we have
stayed at in Victoria are fully air conditioned, especially suites.
I hate for this to be the killer in an otherwise really nice place. But we both
suffered through the night so to be honest it did make us think otherwise.

This is a nice hotel very conveniently located (just behind the Empress), near
the inner harbour and two blocks from the downtown bus terminal (to go to the
ferry to Vancouver).
Very good service. The last floor bar and restaurant (for breakfast and more)
has a 360 degree view. You'll see Mt. Baker if weather permits!

Walking into our room and finding two separate sleeping areas was a big and
welcomed surprise. Linens were fresh, crisp and in general everything was
sparkling clean. Staff so very accommodating and friendly. We were picked up at
the ferry and driven to the hotel. Breakfast at the tower dining room, Vista 18,
was delightful with a near 360 view of Victoria.
Our next night was at the Empress. Our return trips will be back to Chateau
Victoria! They made our trip very memorable.

This was a three day trip to Victoria and our room was on the 17th floor looking
out over the entire harbor area. It was a two bedroom condo and it was
immaculate and very quiet. The staff at check-in was very friendly and the
shuttle driver from the ferry dock to the hotel was very good in telling us what
sites to see and good local info on restaurants....we would definitely stay here
again! |
