Cruises and Vancouver
The Port of Vancouver is homeport for the Vancouver-Alaska cruise, one of the
world's most popular cruises. Annually from May to September, close to 1 million
revenue passengers on some 300 sailings, pass through the Port's two cruise
terminals, Canada Place and Ballantyne.
In the 2008 cruise season, the Port of Vancouver continues to offer cruise
passengers more ships and departures dates to choose from than any other port.
The Port will welcome 33 ships at its two cruise terminals, Canada Place and
Ballantyne. A hotel and convention center
are also located at Canada Place.
Sightseeing in Vancouver
Vancouver is bursting with numerous sightseeing opportunities
and activities. For those who are afraid of heights, beware! The
Capilano suspension Bridge and Park is not for the faint
hearted. This 450 foot bridge sways above the canyon floor that
lies 250 feet below. Vancouver is also home to the world's
thinnest office building. This occupied business is only six
feet wide and is located in Chinatown. Chinatown is the result
of the influx of emigrants who came to Vancouver to work on the
Canadian Pacific Railway. The food and shopping in Chinatown are
out-of-this-world. The Gastown Steam Clock is another unique
point of interest. Every hour the whistle can be heard and it is
the only clock directed by steam in the world. Vancouver is also
home to many beautiful parks.
Queen Elizabeth Park is the first
Canadian park to be devoted entirely to trees. Popular outdoor
activities include snowboarding and skiing at Grouse Mountain in
the winter and boating during the summertime in the beautiful
waters surrounding Vancouver.
So Much to See
Vancouver's North Shore is only a short trip from downtown but
you will feel a whole world away when you step into the attractions of the
Pacific rainforest. Visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge, Cleveland Dam and
Grouse Mountain all in one day!
Stanley Park is a must see attraction filled with natural wonder and spectacular
attractions. Spend a day exploring.
At 1,000 acres Stanley Park is the largest park in Canada. The Vancouver
Aquarium and public swimming pool are also located at Stanley Park. This is an
ideal place to enjoy a picnic or game of Frisbee.
From Sea-to-Sky to Whistler One of the most breathtaking roads on the West
Coast, the Sea-to-Sky highway is the direct route from Vancouver to Whistler
with many interesting stops along the way. Best of all, it can be done in a day!
Biking the Seawall The Seawall is a well-paved trail that traces Vancouver's
shoreline. It provides a wonderful way to tour the city - on a bike!
Victoria BC Victoria's old world charm and wealth of attractions make it the
perfect place to visit during your West Coast vacation. Museums, gardens,
parliament -- and it's just a quick and picturesque journey across Georgia
Strait.
