Hotel Reviews Hyatt Bellevue
May 26, 2010
Overall, this property is decent. Certainly, compared to a run-of-the-mill
Sheraton or Hilton hotel, this Hyatt beats them all. However, as someone who
travels 60% of the time, there were a few things that the hotel could have done
better. I know these may come across as picky, but when paying a premium to be
in a Hyatt versus another location, I have higher standards. Here were my three
concerns:
1. I was in the original tower, but the room was still well-appointed and didn't
strike me as overly dated or worn (as some other posters mentioned). However, I
felt like the room could have been a little cleaner. The grout in the shower and
bathroom tile was noticeably dirty in areas (black grime on it rather than dull
white), and areas around the edge of the room and at the corners were noticeably
dusty. Lastly, the carpet in the room had dark stains in several areas. Did
these things ruin the stay? No, of course not – but I expect more from a Hyatt
(even a seemingly high-traffic property like this one).
2. The mattress was very comfortable, but the bed sheets were too short for the
bed (or the sheets were put on the wrong way). As a result, both the mattress
pad and the bed sheet gathered / crinkled underneath me as I slept, exposing the
mattress along the edge of the bed. I tried to redo the sheet a few times, but
it was too short / tight to adjust. I was still able to sleep, but it was a
little irritating.
3. I wasn’t planning to check out until 11 AM, so I was looking forward to
sleeping in. However, the cleaning staff knocked loudly on the door at both 0830
and 0900, even though it was locked and I had turned on the privacy lock. I
found it odd that they would knock on the door so early in the morning,
especially for a room checking out that day that had the privacy sign up.
From a staff ing standpoint, everyone with whom I came into contact was polite,
friendly, and professional. I definitely give the staff high marks. The location
is also excellent, and is great for business travelers looking for an
alternative to downtown Seattle.
This hotel definitely wasn’t a bad experience, but the difference between the
three-stars I’m giving it and a four or five-star ranking that I normally
encounter with most Hyatts really did come down to these minor details.

We stayed here last Friday on our way to Seattle to catch a plane on Saturday
morning. We decided to stay here instead of at the airport hotels because we
wanted to take the kids to see the Shrek movie at the IMAX theater that is
across the street. We were quite glad we did. We arrived around dinner on
Friday, and were greeted by the usual fantastic service we always get from
Hyatts. The valet directed us to the self-parking (which is free on weekends by
the way, a huge plus over the downtown hotels) which though narrow, was
plentiful. An elevator took us up from the parkade directly into the lobby of
the hotel. They had pre-blocked us connecting rooms which were reasonably
spacious and comfortable. The bathrooms are a little dated, at least the tub
looked it. Not much view to speak of, but I'm not sure that there is a real
desirable view from any floor in this hotel, unless you want to look at a
specific other building. Nice flat screens in the room with a decent selection
of channels (I don't think I've ever checked into a hotel that had enough sports
channels for me, but the Disney channel was helpful for keeping the kids
entertained.)
We had access to the Regency club which is very nice. My wife and I found plenty
of great food to try, and even the kids had a couple of things to snack on. We
had to leave for the movie before dessert was served, but I saw some of the
trays being prepared and it looked really good. Breakfast had a very nice
assortment as well.
The hotel is connected by a walkway to the mall across the street. While I
wouldn't call this destination shopping, it was nice to have a major movie
theatre and bowling alley attatched to the hotel. We came back around 11:30 from
the show, and it seemed like a very safe neighbourhood. Checkout was fast and
efficient the next morning, and I should point out that while we stayed at 3
different hotels this weekend, this was the only one that managed to both bill
us correctly and credit all our loyalty points properly. I would certianly not
hesitate to send a friend in need of a Seattle stay to this hotel.

I watched this Hyatt Regency being built when I lived in the Seattle area a
number of years ago but, being a local, never actually stayed there. Now I
realize what I was missing. The Hyatt Regency is a great property with great
service at a great location.
Downtown Bellevue is more a business and commercial area than a tourist
destination but, whatever your reason for being there, you'll find the Hyatt
Regency's location quite convenient. It's very close to shopping, art galleries,
Microsoft Visitors Center, a number of fine restaurants and many familiar
chains. The location also offers easy access to the I-405 freeway as well as the
S.R. 520 and I-90 floating bridges that lead across Lake Washington to Seattle.
It's also within easy driving distance of Chateau Ste. Michele and other local
wineries.
Service is excellent; every staff member we encountered was pleasant, polite,
and helpful. Our room in the Cascade Tower was very nice and equipped with all
the amenities we expect today including flat-screen TV, work station, hair
dryer, iron and ironing board, and bathrobes. Our room faced east; many
west-facing rooms offer views of Lake Washington and the Seattle skyline beyond.
The Cascade Tower (to the north) was finished in the late '80s and was the
property's first building. Rooms in this tower have obviously been kept
up-to-date, but soundproofing between rooms could be better. If that's a
particular sensitivity, request a room in the brand-new Olympic Tower to the
south.
The hotel also has a large conference center which can mean lots of activity, as
was the case during the weekend we stayed there. Despite the large number of
squealing teenagers involved in a dance workshop and competition, the hotel was
very good at containing the cacophony to the lobby and the meeting floors.
Garage self-parking is quite reasonable at $16 per week night; parking is
complimentary on weekends. Valet parking is also available.
During our weekend stay, we enjoyed dining at two nearby restaurants. Daniel's
Broiler on the 21st floor of the adjoining office tower is a great place to
watch the sun set while enjoying drinks and nibbles or dinner. Dinner is fairly
pricey, though the food is very good. On the ground floor, across the driveway
from the hotel entrance, is Joey's Bellevue. Food at Joey's is also very good
though the atmosphere is more casual than at Daniel's (in fact, it was downright
frenetic in the lounge during happy hour), and offers more modest pricing.
Unfortunately the hotel's on-site restaurant, The Twisted Cork, is currently
only open for breakfast.
All things considered, I would say the Hyatt Regency Bellevue's Four-Diamond
designation is well-deserved. We were certainly not disappointed!

Great place to stay for business or pleasure. New, clean, stylish, comfortable
hotel with many places to eat within walking distance. Cool eco rooms with slot
for room key to turn on lights. When you leave and remove the key it turns off
all the lights in the room.

We've stayed at this hotel multiple times over the years and keep going
back. Primarily catering to the business market, it's located in the
heart of Bellevue, WA's business district. However, hit-up this
clean-shaven hotel on the weekend and you have place to stay that's
modern, staff who are friendly, rooms and main areas with contemporary
decor, within walking distance of restaurants & shopping (bellevue
square) and a 10-min drive from Seattle.
Tips
- yes, you pay for internet, but you can get FREE internet at the
Tully's Coffee in the hotel lobby
- you can get free parking on the weekend
- within the past year, hotel did a major reno revamping some main areas
and adding a new tower
- everything you need is within 3-mins walking distance from hotel
- movie theatre, bowling and multiple restaurants across street
- safe, upper-end area
- most hotels in Seattle charge $28 - 35 nightly for parking, so staying
10-mins away in Bellevue at a hotel with free parking is worth it
- rooms are fairly large
- beds are comfortable
- if you bid ($79 - 99) for a 4-star in Bellevue, WA on priceline, this
hotel is usually the one people get |
